Random thoughts

1. The other night at a friend's house we got into a discussion over men's crazy bitch quota. The crazy bitch quota is this thing most men have at some point in their lives where they have to have a certain number of crazy bitches around. Maybe the crazy bitch makes them feel desired. Maybe they are fascinated by her crazy. I've always been intrigued by this phenomena. Men how many crazy bitches are in your life? Women have you been the crazy bitch? Are you being a crazy bitch or are you letting a crazy bitch in your life? These are questions one should periodically ask oneself.

2. If something only has value because of the name associated with it (ie it's "brand") I generally think it doesn't have much value. And to that end...the same applies for jewelry if I found out my sapphire earrings were not sapphires but a great imitation I wouldn't really care because they are just as pretty.

3. All of the work I do is meaningful, but depressing. Why is meaningful work often depressing?

4. I am NOT glad that I am not single. I am blessed and overjoyed that I am John's fiance. There is a difference. People should seek out relationships that make them feel that difference.

Food Network + Gym = Bad Combination

So I am at the gym on the elliptical trainer, you see I have put on a few pounds in the last couple of months and I want to beat the issue before it becomes a real problem. So the goal is to get my waist down to its pre law school size (3 inches) and my weight to its pre bar exam zone (so I need to lose about ten pounds). Good thing is a still fit in my clothes but the suits leave a nice ring around my waist (button face and all).

Anyway, I am in the cardio equipment area of the gym trying to put in my 45 minutes and some woman behind me puts the TV on food network. AND it is a special on cookie making or some shit all I know is that images of cookies are literally dancing above my head. I turned around and really, forgive me, but non of the ladies behind me where in an "I can eat all the cookies I want shape". My action --I turned up my mp3 player, closed my eyes and attempted to run away.

But I think at gyms the food network should be blocked.

I feel like a cinnamon bun

I knew that the day was going to be difficult when I opened the refrigerator this morning and an egg fell out onto the floor. I cleaned it and moved on. Then I called a cab to be taken to the office, John was teaching so he couldn't take me. After 45 minutes no cab and when I called the company they told me they didn't have any available (only in Tallahassee!). Fortunately Roberto, the maintenance guy (and a Boricua tambien) offers to take me to work. Well bless his heart his car was such a mess I didn't notice the mug of coffee on the arm rest until we rounded a curve and it spilled into my lap, onto my suit, that I was wearing because of today's depositions and all the excess coffee dripped its way to the space between my legs. Thank God it was cold! So there I am in a wet coffee smelling suit and I decide to just go into the office and wipe it off. I get into the office and go to wipe off my pants and find that there was enough of a mess that it soaked through the layer of suit to my panties. I did the only logical thing which was dry the pants of as well as possible, take off the wet panties and stuff them in my pocket as I stealthly made my way back to the office. Mind you the morning was bad so I wore my lucky panties but apparently they didn't work (the panties have a "four" on them which is my lucky number). Now I sit here drafting complaints and between my legs is sticky and all my personal areas are feeling rather disgruntled which is making me disgruntled and I feel kinda like a cinnamon bun.

I need

A band to roll through Tallahassee. A band that I can put on gobs of black eyeliner & mascara and blood red lipstick for. A band where I can let my hair down and have it be knotted and crazy. BUT I HAVE NO IDEA WHERE THESE SHOWS ARE! John doesn't listen to that type of music. I want to put on big black boots and stomp around and have a beer and just a drag i swear just a drag of someone's clove ciggarette. Living in New York I would tromp out with Lauren to hear one of our friends and it would be all good. BUT NO! I have no such friend here and no such band t go to and I think it may make me explode.

Suggestions please

As some of you know I will be teaching a class on Genocide starting next week. If you could please email me, poems, songs, short stories or even quotes written by genocide survivors, or about genocide, I would greatly appreciate it. These pieces can be about the Holocaust, Bosnia, Rwanda, Darfur, Cambodia, the Dirty Wars (which was politicide but I am doing a small section on that as well)...as long as they are about politicide or genocide.

Also if you have writings written by those who have taken part in genocides I am interested in those as well.

I think I want to start each class with a short reading but I am not sure, nor do I have enough to do that just yet. Your suggestions would be very appreciated.

send the suggestions to ninanuyorican at yahoo dot com. thanks

Good news

While I still technically work for myself I have found a mentor here in Tallahassee that I am going to be working for at least two days a week. I am really excited because he works in the areas I want to work in, civil rights and employment discrimination. He also takes court appointed criminal defense cases which is not something I planned on but which should be interesting.

I am making much less per hour than I normally charge however, I am hoping that the compensation is made up for with some quality mentoring. It is also nice to know that I will have some form of minimal income. We are starting out on a trial basis for the next few weeks. Cross your fingers for me.

Other than that my class starts next Wednesday evening at FSU. Apparently books take longer to get in than I expected. I am going to have to make reading packets for the next two weeks or so. Kinda yucky. I feel prepared but I know there is more that I can know. Isn't there always?

In other news. The other day John asked me the last time I wrote a poem and it made me cry. The last time I wrote a good poem was the poem that went on the back of my tio's funeral pamphlet. I have been writing though and I am getting an idea for another children's book. I really need an illustrator for the last one I wrote. Hopefully I will write more this year than I did last year. Isn't that always the goal?

So it's 2006 and I am a part time attorney/part time professor/part time housefiance ...always a writer and always thanking God for my blessings.
