"...[T]he poets who view themselves as 'spoken word' poets produce a different kind of poetry. We tend to
think of poetry as a rendition of the spoken word, but I think it fair to
say, that the language of today's spoken word artists does not translate
into the kind of poetry we find most compelling."
Comments:
my take: I have really never fit into any mold quite well. I think he expects lawyer/poets to be academic poets.
whose quote is that?
i never liked the term "spoken word artist" for precisely this reason. it's an excuse to dicard an entire category of people as unworthy of the title "poet" and their work as unworthy of "poetry."
